The Best Double Umbrella Strollers in 2017
Umbrella strollers are fully-featured strollers that are likely the most popular type of stroller around. Not only are they relatively lightweight and have small footprints when folded, but they are also packed with lots of convenient features. Because of this, many parents also refer to umbrella strollers as their “go to” stroller for everyday use.
Take all the features of an umbrella stroller, combine it and what you have is a double umbrella stroller.

Double umbrella strollers, as its name suggests, are basically umbrella strollers with two seats instead of one. They are one of the most sought-after type of double strollers around as they are often used for everyday use when you’re out and about. While some double umbrella strollers tend to weigh in the 20 – 30 pound range, there are some extremely lightweight double umbrella strollers! These strollers fold easily and compactly which make them ideal for traveling families.
Double umbrella strollers are usually equipped with a standard set of plastic wheels which makes them unsuitable for use on uneven surfaces. If you’re looking for a double stroller that can go over uneven surfaces, and more suited for the outdoor lifestyle, you may want to consider a double jogging stroller instead.

Like other stroller types, there is a good variety of double umbrella strollers out in the market today. This is both a good and a bad thing for the parent consumer. On one hand, this gives parents a good amount of options to pick from, and on the other, parents often get overwhelmed by these choices and are often unable to pick one out for their family.
There are a couple of things you want to ask yourself which will help you narrow down your choices:
How big are your children that will be using this stroller?
While the weight capacities of most double umbrella strollers have increased in the last few years, knowing how big your children are, and how long you see your kids using this stroller can help you pick a suitable stroller. Some strollers will accommodate up to 35 pounds per seat while others will accommodate up to 55 pounds per seat.
If you have big kids, or see your kids using this double umbrella stroller for a while, it will make more sense to get a stroller that has higher weight capacity (i.e. 55 pounds rather than 35 pounds).
If you’re looking for a double umbrella stroller that is newborn-ready, you’ll need to make sure that the stroller is car seat compatible and/or it has fully recline-able seats. I go over this in more detail below.
What features are you looking for in a double umbrella stroller?
Not only do double umbrella strollers differ in terms of their weight capacities, but also, in terms of the features they offer. Some of the features you’ll see in double umbrella strollers include good sized canopies, recline-able seats, a good sized storage basket and car seat compatibility.
Perhaps the two most important and essential features to look out for are the stroller’s compatibility with car seats and if it has seats that can be reclined for comfort. As discussed, if you have a newborn baby, you need to make sure that the stroller is car seat compatible – this also makes it easier to transition from the stroller to the car. An example of a double umbrella stroller that is car seat compatible is the Britax B-Agile double stroller.
As for the seats, I find that having reclining seats make it much more comfortable for my kids as it allows them to take quick naps.
How often do you travel? Do you need a portable double umbrella stroller?
If you travel frequently or if you’re out and about often, then a lightweight double stroller is something that I would recommend. Finding a double umbrella stroller that is not only lighter, but folds easily and compactly can help tremendously when you’re always on the go. An example of this stroller is the ZOE XL2 double stroller which weighs in at just 16 pounds, making it just as heavy as single umbrella strollers!
Best Lightweight Double Umbrella Stroller
If you have two kids and are looking for a lightweight stroller to accommodate both kids, a double umbrella stroller will be your best option. The four criteria we looked at in choosing the best lightweight double umbrella stroller are:
- Weight of the stroller
- Weight capacity of the stroller
- Folding mechanism and footprint when folded
- Sturdiness and quality
Based on these 4 criteria, we found that the UPPAbaby G-Link and the ZOE XL2 double stroller were the top 2 contenders/winners. In terms of weight, the ZOE XL2 weighs just 16 pounds while the UPPAbaby G-Link weighs 24.5 pounds. While the ZOE XL2 is definitely one of the most lightweight double umbrella strollers around, the UPPAbaby G-Link feels a lot more sturdier (perhaps due to its heavier design) and offers more padding and comfort.
Even though both of these strollers are lightweight, they both have one of the best weight capacity among other double umbrella strollers. Both of these strollers are able to accommodate children of up to 50 pounds for each seat, for a total weight capacity of 100 pounds.
Lastly, we looked at the folding mechanisms. We found both of these strollers’ folding mechanism to be quick and easy to use. For the ZOE XL2, all you have to do is use two hands to simultaneously pull the straps at the seats to fold the stroller. What’s nice is that both strollers self-stand once folded.
Another stroller that has excellent folding mechanism is the Baby Jogger Mini Double stroller.

UPPAbaby G-Link Double Stroller
The UPPAbaby G-Link is a recently released double umbrella stroller that I absolutely love! It is strikingly similar to the G-Luxe, which is one of the best umbrella strollers I’ve tested so far. The G-Link’s frame is made out of aluminum and as such, weighs relatively lightweight at just 24.5 lbs. The canopy coverage for this stroller is great, as it also offers a full-sized sun visor (SPF 50+ rated) that you can easily pop out. The G-Link’s seats have deep reclines, which make it really comfortable for your little ones to snooze in the stroller. In addition, given its deep recline, and the included “infant support system,” this stroller can be used from birth. In terms of design, I found the G-Link to have an easy to use folding mechanism that is self-locking. Lastly, seats are spacious (12 inches wide) and there is one giant basket underneath the seat for storage.
Baby Jogger City Mini Double Stroller
The Baby Jogger Mini Double stroller is without a doubt, one of the most popular double umbrella strollers around. If you’ve ever been to Disneyland or Disney World, you’re bound to see a bunch of these because all the rental companies I’ve looked at offer this same stroller! For me, I really like how easy it is to maneuver this double stroller; perhaps due to its 8-inch wheels. The Mini Double also comes equipped with lockable front swivel wheels with suspension. It also has a tall handle bar to accommodate taller parents and is car seat and bassinet compatible. It is also worth mentioning that the quick fold technology for the stroller makes folding it a breeze. In fact, it is definitely one of the best folding mechanisms I’ve seen in a double umbrella stroller.
ZOE XL2 Double Stroller
Aside from its amazing 16 pound weight, respectable 50 pound seat capacities and quick folding mechanism, the ZOE XL2 double stroller has lots of other impressive features.
One of these features is that it has separate canopies for each seat. This allows each kid to adjust the extent of their respective canopy coverage depending on their preference.
Other than that, a nice safety feature that ZOE incorporated in this stroller is in its safe release button for its 5 point harness. To unbuckle the safe release on the safety harness for this stroller, you need to exert some force, which makes it a challenge for younger kids. This ensures that your kids are always safely secured in the stroller.
Another thing I really liked about this ZOE stroller is that it comes with plenty of different accessories – detachable belly bars, one removable parent cup holder, two child cup holders, and one child snack cup. These are nice additions included in the purchase of the stroller that you usually have to pay for in other strollers.
Other notable features include a large storage basket, front wheel suspension and convenient parent storage pockets for essential items like keys and phone.
One thing to note is that this ZOE stroller is not car seat compatible and is therefore not suitable for newborns.
Baby Jogger City Select
The Baby Jogger City Select stroller is not only well-made, but also extremely functional. If I ever had to choose just one stroller that I will end up using for a long time, the Baby Jogger City Select is the stroller I would choose. It can act as single, double or “triple” stroller and can even accommodate up to two combinations of car seats and bassinets. Because of this, I often recommend this stroller to parents who just have 1 child, since it’s extremely easy to “expand” this stroller’s functionality. What’s nice is that the stroller offers everything you need: easy folding mechanism, great canopy coverage, giant storage basket, durability, and independent seat reclines. As a double, it’s great because you’re able to easily change the seating arrangement (face forward or backward) to accommodate the preferences of your kids. Have a kid that you need to keep an eye on? Face the seat backwards! Have a kid that enjoys exploring and seeing new things? Face the seat forward!
Britax B-Agile Double Stroller
When I first got the Britax B-Agile double stroller a few months ago, the very first thing I noticed was how easy it was to set it up – took me less than 10 minutes without any tools. I liked how easy it was to fold the stroller and the fact that it auto-locks itself and is self-standing once folded makes it much more convenient for the parent. Besides that, this stroller has an adjustable handle bar (perfect for tall parents) which is not very common among double umbrella strollers. Other noteworthy features include the seat back pockets, the easy to access storage basket, car seat compatibility as well the great stability the stroller offers. The feeling of stability with this stroller likely comes as a result of its 4 front wheels (2 on each side).
Maclaren Twin Triumph
Another great double umbrella stroller is the Maclaren Twin Triumph which weighs 21.2 pounds and is appropriate for children who are 6 months old and up to a weight capacity of 55 pounds on each seat. This should be able to last your family a couple of years before your kids outgrow that weight capacity.
One of the features that I like is that it not only has independent oversized canopies – one for each seat – but also that these canopies are waterproof! This is a nice feature as most stroller canopies are not waterproof.
Since the Maclaren Twin Triumph will likely last your family for years to come, it is nice that the seats can be easily removable and machine-washable. Having the capability to do that is a big plus to keep this stroller clean and nice – a feature that is nice to have especially if your kids start snacking in the stroller.
The stroller ships fully-assembled and has a large shopping basket which is rated for 1,586 cubic inches.
For comfort, it has multiple seat reclines for each individual seat so that one kid can stay up while the other takes a nap as you stroll around.

Chicco Echo Twin Stroller
The Chicco Echo Twin stroller is a double umbrella stroller that is suitable for kids from 6 months up to 40 pounds. Some assembly is required when you get the stroller, however, the process was quite straightforward, easy and should take less than 20 minutes.
This side-by-side stroller has seats which can be reclined (4 different positions) individually to fit the needs of each individual child. In addition, for comfort, Chicco incorporated adjustable leg rests for each seat. I also find the seats to be well padded.
For safety, it has a standard 5 point safety harness.
The stroller comes with individual canopies, one for each seat. Despite the fact that the canopies are removable, I noticed that the size of the canopies were relatively small and do not provide much protection from the sun.
In terms of storage, this stroller has two individual storage baskets under each seat. Each of these storage baskets has a weight limit of 5 pounds for a total storage capacity of 10 pounds.
The Chicco Echo Twin stroller is definitely super comfortable and sturdy, however the trade-off here is that it weighs 31 pounds. If you’re going to be traveling with this stroller, then this might not be the best stroller for you.

Contours Options Elite Tandem Stroller
So far, most of the strollers that we’ve looked at have all been side-by-side strollers and are not compatible with car seats (except for the Baby Jogger City Select). The Contours Options Elite stroller is directly the opposite.
It is a tandem (front-back) double umbrella stroller which is car seat compatible. It’s not a traditional double umbrella stroller, but it does come with some features which compensates for its 38 pound weight. Like the Chicco Echo Twin, this stroller is likely not your best choice if you are looking for a lightweight double umbrella stroller.
Each seat for this stroller has its own canopy which is large. It can even be extended to provide maximum sun protection if needed.
The seats for this stroller can be reclined to 3 different positions – in one position, it lies almost flat – and each seat has a weight capacity of 40 pounds, which is decent. In addition, for comfort, each seat has an adjustable foot rest.
The main reason why I think this could be a good choice for some parents is the fact that it is car seat compatible. In other words, you are able to use this double umbrella stroller for newborns with compatible car seats. Also, with car seats, transitioning between the stroller and the car is much easier.
Of course, what you have to sacrifice with this stroller is that it is not lightweight and is somewhat bulky even when folded.
Delta Children City Street Stroller
This Delta Children stroller is a side-by-side stroller that has a lightweight frame and a compact umbrella fold for easy storage and travel. It weighs about 21 pounds and each seat has a weight capacity of 35 pounds. Its width allows it to fit through standard doorways which are typically 30” in width.
For safety, each seat has a 3 point safety harness. Additionally, it has 360 swivel, shock absorbing front wheels for smooth riding.
For the storage, parents have a cup holder with two attachment points and there are 2 storage bags that hang off the stroller.
It is important to point out the features it is lacking, including a 5 point harness and reclining seats. What makes the Delta Children City Street side-by-side stroller something worth considering despite its basic features is that it is cheap and affordable. Its price point definitely appeals to parents who do not want or need the fancy bells and whistles features for a stroller.
