Factors to Consider When Picking the Best Umbrella Stroller
Picking out an unsuitable stroller can be a horrible experience, especially if it’s your first time parenting! I know this because I’ve seen the hassle some of my friends had to go through in order to return the stroller and then start the process of looking for a new stroller again. In order to help you find the best umbrella stroller that suits your needs, I have come up with a set of questions that you should ask yourself in order to be able to pick out THE stroller for your family:
How important is it to have a lightweight umbrella stroller for your family?
Umbrella strollers are often regarded as lightweight strollers. This is true for the most part as they are under 20 pounds; however, there are some umbrella strollers that are ultra-lightweight! Some of these only weigh 15 pounds! For some of the most lightweight strollers around, read my guide here.
How easy is it to fold and carry the umbrella stroller for travel purposes?
When you’re travelling, convenience is extremely important! Nowadays, most umbrella strollers are pretty easy to fold and some include a shoulder strap for ease of carry. Some umbrella strollers also have small footprints which makes them easy to carry on airplanes.
What added features do I want in my umbrella stroller?
Some umbrella strollers come equipped with more features than others. Some of these nice to have features are a removable canopy, water resistant and removable seat fabric, multi-position deep seat recline and built in travel system compatible. Other features include wheel suspension, extra padding on the seat and a larger storage space. Added features in a stroller often correlates to a higher price point.
How much canopy coverage does the umbrella stroller have?
The amount of canopy coverage varies from stroller to stroller. Some strollers such as the UPPAbaby G-Luxe stroller have an oversized canopy that will definitely shield your child from excessive sunlight. If you’re living in an area which gets many hot sunny days, you’ll definitely want to get a stroller with a good canopy coverage.
How much does the seat recline?
Most umbrella stroller do come with the option to recline the stroller’s seat. Having a deep reclining seat (almost flat) means that your child will be able to nap more comfortably! For the parent, a deep reclining seat can do wonders if you have to do a diaper change session in the stroller. Definitely a whole lot easier changing diapers on a flat recline seat!
Other Factors to Consider
If you still feel confused about which umbrella stroller to choose after answering the above five questions, below are other factors you should consider:
What is my budget and how much am I looking to spend on a stroller?
What is the maximum weight capacity for this stroller and how heavy is my child?
Am I planning to have another child in the near future? If so, would it make more sense to invest in a higher quality umbrella stroller now?
Now, without further ado, in the next section, I go over the five best umbrella strollers of 2017.

UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller
When I first saw the UPPAbaby G-Luxe stroller, I knew right away that this was a premium umbrella stroller. This stroller weighs 15 pounds and supports a maximum weight of up to 55 pounds or newborns who are aged 3 and above. The seat for this stroller is super comfortable and is not only water resistant, but can also be removed for washing. Some other features of the UPPAbaby G-Luxe stroller include a large canopy coverage, a shoulder strap for easy transport, shock absorbing wheels (yay!), and a large storage space. Because of its handle bar height of 42.5 inches, it is also perfect for parents who are tall. Lastly, I like the fact that this UPPAbaby stroller comes in a variety of different vibrant colors! Inglesina Net Stroller
With an affordable price tag, a 11.2 lb weight, and a whole lot of other great features, what’s there not to like about the Inglesina Net stroller? The Inglesina Net has an aluminum frame that gives it a sturdy feel, despite its weight. The stroller has a 2-position recline and has a pretty extensive UPF 50+ rated canopy. It also offers a shoulder strap for great portability. When it comes to opening and closing of the stroller, the Inglesina did a great job on this stroller’s folding and unfolding mechanisms, as I found them easy to get used to. In addition to all these great features, the standout feature for me is without a doubt its wide seat that is well-padded and machine-washable. For its price tag, you can’t beat the value you’ll be getting with the Inglesina Net stroller. Highly recommended!
Baby Jogger Vue Lite Umbrella Stroller
The Baby Jogger Vue Lite Umbrella stroller is probably the stroller that offers some of the most unique features when compared to all other umbrella strollers. The stand out feature for this stroller has got to be its reversible seat and canopy configurations. I absolutely like this feature as it allows me to easily change the seat configuration if I want to constantly look at my child. Other features for this Baby Jogger stroller include being travel system ready, leg rests for both forward and backward facing seat configurations, a carry handle and a tall handle bar. It is also relatively lightweight an compact – weighing just 14.5 pounds and measuring only 15.43” x 12.25” x 39.75” when folded.
Maclaren Quest Stroller
The Maclaren Quest stroller is definitely a high quality, premium umbrella stroller that weighs only 13.8 pounds. It has four different seat reclining positions and an extendable leg rest to ensure your child’s comfort. What’s really nice about this stroller is that it has a removable, machine washable seat, making it super easy to clean and care for this stroller. What this means is that you don’t have to worry too much about any spills with this stroller. Aside from that, the canopy that comes with this stroller will not only protect your child from sunlight, but also rain. The canopy is not only waterproof, but the purchase of this stroller also includes a rain cover which is usually an accessory for other strollers. This Maclaren Quest stroller also has an additional safety feature which Maclaren calls the “Newborn Safety System.” This unique safety feature includes a protective head and foot barrier that safely cocoons newborn babies!
GB Zuzu Stroller
The first thing I noticed when I tried out the GB Zuzu stroller was its affordable price tag. At its price tag of less than $200 (at the time of publishing), this stroller is a great deal. What’s nice about the GB Zuzu stroller is the fact that it is a great lightweight umbrella stroller that is car seat compatible. And it does a good job accommodating many different car seats, including popular ones such as the Chicco Key Fit and the Graco Click Connect. The standout feature for me in this stroller is its AMAZING canopy coverage which will definitely provide the maximum sun protection your little one needs. The stroller also folds easily and the company claims that the GB Zuzu stroller folds 30% shorter than most umbrella strollers.

Summer Infant 3D Zyre Convenience Stroller
The first stroller that comes to mind when I think about umbrella strollers is the Summer Infant 3D Zyre Convenience stroller. It is not only super lightweight, weighing only 13 pounds, but also offers an excellent oversized canopy. As you’ll find in my detailed review of the Summer Infant 3D Zyre, this stroller has one of the BEST sun protection coverage I’ve seen in any umbrella stroller. If you’re living in an area with tons of hot sunny days, this stroller will provide excellent sun protection for your child. Another nice thing about this stroller is that it is super easy to set up! All you need to do is snap the 4 set of wheels to the stroller frame and that’s it! Other key features of this stroller include its double wheel system for a smoother ride, an adjustable 5-point harness, and a one hand folding mechanism.
Joovy Groove Ultralight Lightweight Travel Umbrella Stroller
This Joovy Groove stroller weighs just 13.9 pounds and is definitely one of parents’ favorite umbrella strollers. Don’t be fooled by its lightweight graphite aluminum frame, as it is also really sturdy and stable. A few features that really stand out in this stroller are its 149 degree reclining seat and its all wheel suspension with dual brake system. It also has a simple two step folding process which makes folding this stroller such a breeze. It really takes me less than 15 seconds to fold this umbrella stroller. Best Umbrella Stroller That is Lightweight and Travel-Friendly
One of the questions I often get from my readers is:
What umbrella stroller would you recommend that is not only lightweight, but also designed for travel?
The fact is, most umbrella strollers are lightweight and compact enough such that they are suitable for travelling purposes. However, there is one stroller which I absolutely have nothing but good things to say about. This stroller is the umbrella stroller that I use for all my travels.
Mountain Buggy Nano Stroller
I hold a very high regard for the Mountain Buggy Nano stroller. Not only is it ultra-lightweight, but more importantly, it is an umbrella stroller that makes travelling super convenient. The stand out feature for me for this stroller is that it fits in an included satchel which has a shoulder strap for easy carrying. In my experience, having a satchel to house the stroller prevents the stroller from being scratched up or damaged while it is in the airplane. Having the stroller fit in a satchel is also super convenient for transport and travel. Once folded, this stroller measures only 22” x 12” x 22” (2015 model). The folding and unfolding mechanism for this stroller is also extremely easy and requires only one hand!
It also appears that I’m not the only one who adores the Mountain Buggy Nano stroller; this 44 pound capacity stroller is the winner of the Red Dot Design Award in 2015 for its awesome and innovative stroller design! Just watch the video below to see how great this stroller is for travel.
Best Umbrella Stroller For Cheap!
While spending more on a stroller typically means you’ll be getting a higher quality stroller or more features, not every parent can afford to spend a few hundred dollars on a stroller. Which is why I picked out a great stroller that is not only relatively cheap, but has also gotten pretty good reviews and ratings!
Chicco Liteway Stroller
When it comes to the affordability, it is hard to beat the Chicco Liteway stroller. Despite its relatively affordable price tag, it offers all the essential features needed in an umbrella stroller. First off, it offers a fully reclining seat that can be adjusted to 5 different positions as well as an adjustable leg rest. Talk about comfort at a low price! This Chicco stroller also has lockable front swivel wheels, rear wheel suspension, adjustable canopy, parent cupholder, and a 3D compact fold for easy storage and transport. All in all, the Chicco Liteway stroller is a great umbrella stroller to go for if you’re not looking for any bells and whistles in your stroller.

Graco LiteRider Click Connect Stroller
I often refer to the Graco LiteRider Click Connect stroller as the best “bang for your buck” single stroller. This umbrella stroller is a really good deal for what you pay for. It offers a simple single handed folding mechanism and offers a good amount of storage space. There’s plenty of room to store things in the storage basket and also features a few cup holders. It weighs about 16.85 pounds and supports riders up to 40 pounds. It even has a removable child tray for snacks! For all these features, I have found it to be one of the best, if not the best umbrella stroller at this price point. Other parents I know of too highly rate this Graco stroller as it has pretty good features for a stroller that is this cheap!
Umbrella strollers are strollers that most parents get if they’re not intending to jog and as such, this type of stroller caters to the needs of the majority of parents out there. Again, picking out the best umbrella stroller is by no means an easy task! So you’re definitely not alone if you’re feeling frustrated or have a feeling of information overload! That’s exactly why I created this website! To help moms (and dads) pick out an umbrella stroller that best fit their needs.
If you still can’t pick between two umbrella strollers, be sure to check out the comparison tool above! Personally, I’d recommend spending a little more and going with a premium quality umbrella stroller as it is something that you’ll probably be using all the time. Not only that, pricier strollers tend to be more comfortable in my experience. I’d say anything that is priced about $150 or above can be considered premium.
