The Baby Jogger City Mini Double is the number one choice for stroller rental services (just check out the rental services in Disney World and Disneyland) all around the U.S., when it comes to double strollers. It isn’t hard to understand why it is so popular once you take a look at its compact build, large sun canopies and the swivel front wheels with ample suspension.

So, is this the double stroller that you and your children need? Most City Mini Double reviews would think so, and in this review, we see if that’s true. We will take a closer and more in-depth look at the product to find out if it really is a good fit for your particular needs.

Features and Pros

Easy to Use Flat Fold (Quick Fold)

The stroller folds flat as soon as you lift the straps and pull them towards you. It does require you to pull with both hands, but it is certainly one of the best folding mechanisms that we have come across yet.

Compact Form

Not only does the City Mini Double become compact when folded, but it is also narrow enough (for a double stroller) to get through most tight passages. The flat fold is particularly useful if you plan to drive around with the stroller in your trunk.

Swivel Front Wheel (8”) with Suspension

Although the front wheel suspension isn’t exactly equipped to handle off-road strolling or jogging, the system is good enough to handle cracks, debris or bumps on the road, without your kids feeling them. The front wheels swivel for maneuverability and can even be locked for more stability when you are on a long open stretch.

Big Canopies with Peek-a-Boo Windows

One of my kids have eczema, which is aggravated whenever the skin is dry which is contributed by hot weather. As eczema is pretty common among kids, it is important to have canopies that provide a good amount of sun protection. I do not like canopies unless they are big enough to cover the entire child when needed and the City Mini Double delivers here. The independent sun canopies are big with UV 50+ protection and they have not one, but two peek-a-boo windows on each of them.

Tall Handlebar

We would have preferred a height- adjustable handlebar, but the padded handlebar on the Baby Jogger City Mini Double 2016 is high enough for most parents. Additionally, it can also be shifted back enough to keep tall parents from kicking the axle accidentally.

For more information on strollers that are designed for tall parents, read this guide.

Nearly Flat and Independent Seat Recline

A lot of the strollers claim to be ideal for newborns but they are not quite so as they cannot provide a pram-like flat sleeping position to the baby. However, the City Mini comes pretty close to that with a near-flat recline. If you have older children who enjoy sitting up, the second seat can also be adjusted independently to a decent upright position.

Potential to Become a Travel System for Your Family

I really like the versatility of the City Mini double stroller. You can install two car seats or two bassinets into the the City Mini Double, or one of each, depending on your needs. In order to fit in an infant car seat, you will need to buy the car seat adapter separately though.

Cons

No Accessories Included

The City Mini Double isn’t the cheapest double stroller around, so it was disappointing to see that not even a parent console or a cupholder was included in the package. There are a lot of accessories available for the Mini, but they will all cost you extra.

Small Storage Basket

The storage basket is not “huge” for a twin stroller and if you are planning to carry around groceries AND the diaper bags in this, it can be challenging to fit it all in! The size of the storage basket should however be sufficient for the essential items for your kids.

Improvements Made in the Baby Jogger City Mini Double 2016 Stroller

The City Mini Double 2014 was already an excellent side-by-side double stroller, but Baby Jogger added a longer handlebar and Velcro back covers to make it even more so in the 2016 edition. Also, it now folds irrespective of the position of the wheels; which was an issue with the 2012 edition. Although the 2014 edition is still available, we would recommend getting the City Mini Double 2016 instead for a little extra.

What are Other Parents Saying About the Baby Jogger City Mini Double Stroller

This is a review of the City Mini Double stroller. The video is a few years old, and the stroller reviewed is the 2012 version, but should give you some good information about the stroller.

Is the Baby Jogger City Mini Double Stroller for You?

As the name suggests, the City Mini Double is meant to be used in the city and it truly is a double stroller made for the urban life. In fact, it is one of the strollers I recommended for use in a busy city like New York City. It weighs in at just 26.6 lbs but can carry up to 50 lbs on each of its two seats comfortably. The lightweight, the swivel front wheels and the compact build makes this double stroller perfect for travelling in the city with your children as you can get through most standard-sized doorways, corridors and even crowded aisles without too much of a problem.

There’s also the easy, flat folding that’s as simple as it can be. We found the front wheel suspension to be a feature that we particularly liked as it provided a comfortable ride to the children even when the terrain got a little bumpy near the playground. What we didn’t like is the fact that in spite of the product not being cheap at all, Baby Jogger includes absolutely no accessories with the City Mini Double.

The City Mini Double stroller isn’t for you if you are looking for a jogger or an all-terrain stroller for off-road adventuring with your two kids. That being said, its lightweight frame is easy to push; the ride is comfortable for your children and the double stroller can be squeezed through narrow corners with relative ease. If you have two young children who can ride a stroller (under 50 lbs) and if you live in the city, there are very few options that are a better fit for your family when compared to the City Mini Double stroller.
